Professional development

After earning a Bachelor of Science Degree in Veterinary Science in 1987, Dr. Sheahan went on to graduate with a Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine in 1990. She practiced one year in a mixed animal hospital in Northern California prior to moving to Bakersfield in 1991.  After practicing at some of the Veterinary Hospitals in Bakersfield, she took a position at one of the nation's largest private referral Veterinary Hospitals in Southern California, pursuing her interest in surgery. Upon her return to Bakersfield, she, with her husband, Jack, established Rosedale Veterinary Hospital in 1996 which quickly became one of the top Veterinary Hospitals in Bakersfield.

Dr Sheahan is a recipient of the 2011-2012 Donald G Low-CVMA Fellowship. Hundreds of Veterinarians compete for this one of a kind opportunity. Since its inception in 2008, only 25 Veterinarians worldwide have been lucky enough to be chosen for this fellowship. For 2011-2012, 6 Fellows were chosen. Dr Sheahan will use this to pursue her interests in Small Animal Internal Medicine. Bakersfiled animal lovers are fortunate to have Dr Sheahan as the only Bakersfield Veterinarian who has gone through the Fellowship program and pursued her interest in Small Animal Internal Medicine. In addition to continuing her dedication to her patients by staying abreast of the latest developments in Veterinary Medicine, this will allow Dr Sheahan to share her real-world experiences with the Veterinary Students at UC Davis.

Personal

Dr. Sheahan has been happily married to Jack Sheahan for almost 27 years. They met while attending Colorado State University. They have 3 Children, 1 who is attending Veterinary school and 2 who are pursuing careers in Computer Science. They share their life with 8 horses, 5 dogs (3 Great Danes, a Lab and a Dachshund) and 5 cats. Dr. Sheahan competes with her Draft/Paint horse, Gabriel, in Combined Driving Events. She also scuba dives and skydives. And, as many of you know, she gets great enjoyment riding her Harley. But her greatest pleasure in the world is the time she gets to spend with her husband (Yes-her husband wrote this part :))
